CHARLES PHOENIX is a mid-century pop culture expert, humorist and author celebrating classic and kitschy American life and style. He is known for his spirited live performances, colorful coffee table books, “field trip” tours, and madcap videos. The Los Angeles Times says, “Call him the King of Retro.”

ON TELEVISION, Charles has appeared with Martha Stewart, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brian, and Queen Latifah, as a judge on Food Network’s Cake Wars: Christmas, Netflix’s Nailed It, and vintage appraiser on A&E’s Storage Wars.

GROWING UP IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, Charles was educated at theme parks, shopping malls, and his dad’s used car lots. While enjoying careers as a fashion designer and classic car dealer, he discovered an unexpected treasure in a thrift shop. Uncovering a shoebox full of vintage Kodachrome slides marked “Trip Across the United States, 1957” turned out to be a life altering experience which inspired his performance career.

LIVE ON STAGE, Charles’ supercharged “slide show” performances launch retro pop culture into the stratosphere. With unbridled enthusiasm, keen expertise, and eagle eye for oddball detail, he reveals the backstories and glories of American’s spectacular space-age style, car culture, roadside wonders, local foods, unsung attractions, lost treasures, legendary landmarks and more galore.

HOLIDAY JUBILEE: CLASSIC & KITSCHY FESTIVITIES AND FUN PARTY RECIPES (Prospect Park Books – 2019) – Charles’ latest coffee table book – serves up an extravaganza of America’s seasonal traditions – past, present, and future with over 500 images and 21 eye-popping, original recipes from the “Charles Phoenix Test Kitchen,” including the Cherpumple, Easter Meatloaf of Lamb, and Frosty the Cheeseball Man.
