Slide of the Week: March 24th, 2005
Easter Sunday, Phoenix Arizona, 1952.
This slide is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite finds.
For those of your who have been to one of my slide shows, chances are you may remember Mary-Charlotte. Who could forget this magical mirror image of that strawberry blond hair, peaches-and-cream complexion and cigarette dangling from those red painted lips? And the cut roses and squeezed lemons that provide color to the otherwise very blue bathroom that she has cleverly turned into a makeshift bar. Well, after all, it’s Easter Sunday and cocktails will be served.
This blessed Sunday let Mary-Charlotte be an inspiration to you. Bless the bunch at your Easter brunch by offering what she does — Tequila and Kahlua with a squeeze. Call it the “Teqlua” Sunrise, and offer it with a squeeze of course. Be generous with them and, oh, whatever you do, don’t forget to tell them “it’s Mary-Charlotte’s recipe.”

P.S. Dyeing eggs this year? May I suggest that you dye a dozen or two brown eggs to go along with the white eggs. You will be amazed and inspired by how beautifully the brown eggs take the dye. The colors are VERY rich and deep!

Just attended your show in Lancaster a couple of nights ago, what a hoot! Making a theater full of people laugh for a full two hours is quite a feat. Loved this gal especially. It’s good to know the Jose Cuervo bottle hasn’t changed much over the decades.

Charles- Just like Jean, I was lucky enough to attend your show in Lancaster at the LPAC on Saturday night and I have to tell you I am still laughing out loud! What a great presentation. Keep up the good work. PS I am already looking forward to your “Downtown LA Bus tour”……

A bathroom closet drinker. Great slide. Even the lemon peel is there. The cigarette is something else.

Grandma!!
Every time I smell that intoxicating mixture of non-filtered Camels, tequila, and miniature soap distributed by National Hospitality Supply, I’m reminded of that Easter weekend we spent together.
Oh, to be in Buena Park again!

If only Mary-Charlotte and the Tat-and-Ring Guy could get together…I’m sure romance would bloom amid a sea of Jose Cuervo and cigarette smoke.

This is by far your best find. When I saw it at your show a couple of years back I knew it would not be surpassed. A true classic. So, where is Mabel today? On the wrong side of dirt, or pushing a shopping cart aimlessly down Central Avenue in Phx searching for those elusive aluminum cans?
